We are less than two months away from “Supremacy: Canelo vs. Golovkin,” the Middleweight world championship fight that features two of boxings best in Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin.
Canelo vs. Golovkin will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 16, 2017.
This is easily the most-anticipated boxing match in years, aside from Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor fight (if you want to call that a boxing match).
Canelo (49-1-1, 34 KOs) returned to San Diego, California last week for the eighth consecutive time to begin training camp ahead of his sixth headlining pay-per-view event against Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs).
The native of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico will be defending his lineal and Ring Magazine Middleweight titles.
Canelo shared his training routine leading up to the biggest fight of his career. Canelo’s daily routine in camp consists of running from 6:00 am to 6:30 am He follows up his morning run with breakfast and allows himself time to relax.
Canelo then eats a snack or light meal around 1:00 pm before heading to his gym. From 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm Canelo trains at his gym Monday, Wednesday, and Friday–this training includes different cardio exercises, hitting mitts, jumping rope, etc. On Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, Canelo spars.
“Usually training is almost always the same, but the strategy is different because every fighter is different. The strategy depends on the fight. While you’re preparing for a fight, you don’t know what happens once you’re in the ring,” said Canelo.
“I’m a fighter who is a counter puncher, and his style is a come forward style, so I think both styles will lead to a great fight. My style, the style that I have, is superior to his style. With sparring, we usually go based on someone who is similar to the fighter in order to have the same style-the height and the weight. That’s usually what we focus on, to get somebody like that.”
While Canelo’s camp takes place in San Diego, Golovkin returned to The Summit Gym with head trainer Abel Sanchez.
Boxing’s No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter according to ESPN, Golovkin is back at the high altitude training complex in Big Bear, California to prepare for the biggest challenge of his career in his long awaited Las Vegas debut.
“Abel has new ideas for this fight–exciting ideas–and I need to be my best to perform in the ring,” said Golovkin. “I don’t care about pound for pound. This is real. This is about being the champion of the world.”
“I was very happy with the first week Gennady spent in camp for basic conditioning, the most difficult thing to do with Gennady is to hold him back,” said trainer, Abel Sanchez.
“Starting slowly is just not in his vocabulary. Gennady has wanted this fight for so long. I can already tell he is going to pull out all stops in this training camp to be at his best on September 16. This is war.”
Golovkin, a native of Karaganda, Kazakhstan who now lives in Los Angeles, California, has since 2010, reigned as world Middleweight champion. In the past seven years, GGG has successfully defended his crown 18 times, also while unifying the division with the WBC, WBA, IBF and IBO titles.
As both fighters are currently in training camp, confident that they have the right game plan going into the bout–boxing fans wait in anticipation for what is going to be a very competitive fight against two warriors with very different styles.
At the sold-out T-Mobile Arena, Canelo Alvarez and Gennady “GGG” Golovkin will fight for supremacy in the Middleweight division and possibly the No. 1 pound-for-pound spot in boxing on September 16.
This will be a 12-round fight presented by Golden Boy Promotions and GGG Promotions live on HBO Pay-Per-View. This is a must-see fight.
