Ryan Garcia vs. Carlos Morales Results

On Saturday, September 1, 2018, Ryan Garcia (15-0, 13 KOs) went 10 full rounds with Carlos Morales (17-2-3, 6 KOs), earning a majority decision victory in front of the sold-out Fantasy Springs Resort Casino crowd.

The fight aired live on Golden Boy PromotionsFacebook Watch fight night stream.

Garcia wanted to make a statement on Saturday night, but failed to do so in front of the partisan crowd.

The scorecards were 98-92, 95-95 and 98-92 in favor of Garcia.

Rounds 1 and 2 started off relatively slow, with both fighters feeling each other out. Neither fighter was active or took control of the early rounds in dominating fashion.

Garcia is known for his blistering speed, nicknamed “The Flash,” and he showed this speed in spots, but not enough to wow the crowd, or hurt Morales.

Morales couldn’t get past Garcia’s much faster hand speed. He tried to make adjustments throughout the fight but none seemed to work. Morales didn’t have success as the aggressor or as the counterpuncher fighting off of his back foot.

Morales had one bright spot during the fight, during the seventh round he buckled Garcia’s knees with a stiff power jab. Garcia’s legs wobbled and he tried to survive the remainder of the round.

Garcia landed the flush and cleaner punches throughout the night en route to his majority-decision victory. The keys to his win were his combination punching and his quick left hook.

The fight didn’t live up to the hype as it had spots of inactivity and holding. On the bright side, it was 10 tough rounds of experience for the 20-year-old Garcia.

In the post-fight interview, Garcia showed his respect for his opponent. “Much respect to Carlos Morales, I felt the fight was closer than what the scorecards said,” said Garcia as the crowd cheered and booed as well.

When asked if he was ready for a showdown with Gervonta Davis (who he’s traded verbal jabs with via social media), Garcia responded confidently. “I’m young and I’m hungry,” said Garcia. “I just need to get back into the gym and work on my craft.”

Garcia is on the rise to superstardom in the sport of boxing. His name and face will continue to grow under Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions.
